Considering how you feel in a room, rather than simply focusing on how it looks, is an excellent start for making holistic design changes that can enhance your joy, peace, and happiness.

When it comes to latest trends, I’ve always preferred sticking to the timeless over trend-seeking, if you don't mind me being honest.

For as long as I can remember, the focus was on your home looks and functioning. But some changes are coming…..

We are pivoting to a time when we realize we need something more from our homes. We need them to support our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health or, in other words, our overall well-being.

As we clamber for a more calm, connected, straightforward, and self-aware life, it’s easy to see why the Holistic approach is becoming the inevitable next step in Interior Design.

What is Holistic Interior design?

At its core, holistic interior design is an energy-based practice that enhances the health of the mind, body, and soul. It should help elevate our emotions, strengthen our sense of self, and make us feel whole and connected. The ultimate goal is to maintain a sense of harmony and wellness.

When you feel positivity in a space, the energy field is likely balanced. You’re in a positive environment that makes you feel at peace and harmony.

When you get positive vibes from your space, you become more inspired for anything you need, may it be rest and battery recharge after a long working day or connecting, creating, and entertaining.

When the energy field in a room is unbalanced, it can manifest as a dark mood, restlessness, bad communication, and some psychological and physical discomforts.

The holistic interior design taps into your soul and creates the environment to feel safe, peaceful, and healthy in your home. It can heal as it nourishes your emotions, mind, and soul.

Holistic Interior design means understanding that the spaces in which we live influence how we feel and, based on that, what actions we take and what choices we make.

Many of us are guilty of planning a space based on trends. We choose furniture, accessories, or paint colors that don’t necessarily speak to us. Being in such a space leaves us empty and uninspired.

On the other hand, Holistic Interior Design lifts your spirit and nurtures your soul, bringing you into harmony with yourself and your environment.

HERE ARE A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN YOU ARE DESIGNING OR DECORATING YOUR HOME:

  • Just so you know – the only people you need to impress are the ones living there.
A pretty space designed to impress the neighbors is not necessarily going to make you feel good when you are in it. Remember… you live there, and you should love every moment.

  • Before you create a space, ask yourself how it will be used. By you!
Again, you are creating a space where you (and your family, if that’s the case) will spend time and perform activities. Don’t decorate the space “for when somebody else comes.” If the energies of you and your space are in harmony, everybody will love to be a part of it as well.

  • Think about the layout of the room.
Every room needs an uninterrupted flow, so people and energy should be able to move through it without interruption. Minimalism is often used in a holistic approach as it’s beneficial to our mental well-being. Over-furnished space and clutter can harm health as it causes stress and anxiety. Uncluttered, optimally furnished, and clean spaces allow energy to flow freely through the space.

  • Choose colors for wellness.
Colors impact your mood and behavior and should be considered to emotionally and mentally support you. When you choose colors that make you happy, promote relaxation, or slow down your heart rate, you use color to achieve wellness and your specific #SoulGoals.

  • Make every space a reflection of your personality.
First, choose your style, no matter how “untrendy” it is. Then, select items that speak to you, the ones you feel excited about! Finish with the décor items that have stories. And add plants or pets or, even better, both. Give them some love and attention, and it is guaranteed that you will get so much more in return!

  • Make the lights count.

Light from the ceiling is essential, but it has nothing to do with making you feel relaxed and cozy. For that reason, make sure to have plenty of light sources at your eye level, both when sitting and when standing.

  • Make plants welcome in your home .

And plants will give you back so much. Plants will bring life to your space and will be your peace of nature no matter where you live. They will help you to feel grounded and will give you sense of accomplishment as you watch them grow.
